SITE ADDRESS CHANGE

We discovered that Picasa Web Albums is a better fit for our picture-heavy format. Sorry to change the address so quickly, but please update your bookmarks to the URL at the bottom. This will probably be the last Bastrop blog post at blogspot.com.

The format of Picasa web albums is a bit different than blogspot.com/blogger.com. We can upload photos at any time and it does not create a new "entry". We have organized the photos into folders for each week; text captions will be included under most of the photos. In some cases there will be a "journal" icon which you can click on to read.

Last week

At left is the crew that painted a porch for an older couple last week. The couple had lost their old home in the fire. Although we didn't build their new home from scratch, they were very appreciative of the help we did provide. On Thursday night (cooks' night off) they joined us for dinner at a restaurant and shared some interesting stories. ACWR also skirted a trailer for the husband's older sister who lives nearby.

At right, laying out a site for the foundation. The new houses will have a crawl space, but not a full basement. Not sure if you can see it in this photo but much of the soil in the area is sandy.

At left, hooking up power to a site to run the air compressors (for air nailers), saws, etc. This photo and the two above are actually from last week.

Today was a beautiful day, sunny with a high around 60. Last weekend we had some unusually cold weather (for central Texas) and hopefully we can take advantage of the nice weather before the rain comes later this week. If days are particularly nasty the crew takes a break and spends a day in San Antonio as they did last Thursday. -Bryan

Initial post

Well the Bastrop County, TX world relief project is underway, despite the lack of a blog until now. Things have been busy in the office for the first couple of weeks as well as on the job sites. This first post will be fairly brief and won't have any pictures, I just want to get something posted to test the blog and let people know it's out there. Work is progressing... Site #1 has most of the exterior walls up. Site #2 has the foundation poured, and site #3 has the footings poured and we are setting up to pour the rest of the foundation. We will try to include some pictures and more detail in the next post. -Bryan
